Pursuit Force

Sony's latest for the PSP reaches Burnout speeds.

Think of Sony's latest racing game for the PSP as one long Matrix: Reloaded freeway chase scene, sans Keanu, with even cheesier dialogue. The idea behind Pursuit Force is as follows: chase down stereotypical gang members via vehicle, hop onto rival autos and take out the baddies aboard, and then commandeer the open ride. Okay, maybe it sounds somewhat complicated, but developer BigBig makes doing the aforesaid surprisingly simple with some rather responsive and intuitive controls.

You'll play as a plays-by-his-own-rules, generic rookie cop ordered to take down five gangs running ramped in Capital City. But hey, they didn't train you for this! Fret not--pouncing from car to car is fun, easy, and instantly gratifying. You'll grab onto the front or back of an auto, and from there you can unleash machinegun hell upon the crooks aboard.

Chases take you through land, water, and air, and even combinations of the three, where jumping from car to boat is commonplace. And with the game's 55 vehicles and 25 different weapon types, the action remains packed throughout all 30 episodes.

Originally released in Europe, Pursuit Force has been adjusted advantageously for its release here in the states, meaning fine-tuned difficulty and better controls. It is furiously fast and graphically comparable to Burnout Legends...quite an impressive feat, for sure.
