Conflict: Global Terror

: We still don't understand how 2K's Conflict series can win their battles. An incoherent, poorly designed control system wreaks havoc with the gameplay. Global Terror, so far, isn't an exception.

You'd like to hope that a warmonger would learn from past battle mistakes in order to win future...er, conflicts. But for 2K Games, its mistake has always been to focus on high profile skirmishes minus the coherent team tactics normally required in such virtual war games. In a playable version of Global Terror, this lack of gameplay muddles its newest battlefield.

The premise of this Conflict is believable. Set in today's campaign against terror, you lead a four-man team of specially trained soldiers to hunt down a ruthless gang of Nazis bent on bringing in a new world order. Like past Conflict games, you can at anytime take control of anyone in your squad, whether he's the commander, sniper, or heavy gunner. However, unlike other group tactical games, controlling all team members at once is a chore. The controller setup is just too complex, resulting in fumbling fingers every time you want to maneuver a friend out of harms way. If only this one very big annoyance is fixed, can this conflict in Conflict can start earning medals. Even the new features--smarter A.I., nonlinear paths, and overhauled graphics--might not be enough to help it graduate from basic training. Still, devoted Conflict fans who've enjoyed the other battles despite the ragtag mechanics will surely won't want to miss this next mission.
