Sam gets more serious than ever in Serious Sam 2, a radical overhaul of the cult PC shooter.
PC shooter freaks know that the so-called Serious Sam series is anything but, well, serious. Just look at the main character, a muscle-bound jock who inexplicably wears a t-shirt and tennis shoes to battle. Then there are the weapons, which include comically oversized shotguns, monstrous miniguns, and even a heat-seeking parrot (don't ask). Okay, so the Serious Sam serious is a good country mile wide of being realistic, but don't be fooled by the silly presentation: the blistering shootouts will test the mettle of even the hardest Halo geek. In the playable preview build, Serious Sam II boasted solid graphics, marred only by a slight blurriness and an uneven framerate (the developers swear it will be fixed). The action is as frantic as ever, and you can mow down dozens of foes at a time. Vehicles are another major addition: in one standout scenario, you could hop into a giant spiked ball, American Gladiators-style, to squash the evil armies. Now that's what we call serious.
