Its already being heralded as a classic just by its graphical presence. But can the makers of the famed Ico game create another adventure that once again not only dazzles the eyes, but also captivates the rest of our senses?
Colossal Love Story
Losing a loved one is never easy to grasp, but what if you had a chance to bring that loved one back to life? Such is the premise in Shadow of the Colossus, a tale about a big heart let loose in an enormous land filled with giant creaturesor more like gargantuan creatures named Colossi. You see, these mystical grandeur beasts have a power to revive, a power that will awaken a loved one, a power that will give your heart peace. But before you can find peace, youll need to overcome some sizeable obstacles.
Size Doesnt Matter
Beyond the lovey-dovey self-sacrifice story line, Shadow of the Colossus should have some substance. To find each of the 16 Colossi, you must explore a vast land on foot and horseback, then once found, defeat them using only a sword and a bow and arrow. The challenge, obviously, is to effectively use your tiny tools up against giants. The action-oriented gameplay is also balanced out by thought-provoking puzzle solving.
In a short demo, Shadow of the Colossus certainly met the visual expectations. The game itself, however, still lacked excitement. Riding around aimlessly on a horse in a humongous land didnt seem really appealing. And battling one of the Colossi wasnt a very tall order to meet. Once you figured out how to mount it, taking down the behemoth was simple. True, its a high expectation, but lets hope Shadow of Colossus will be much more engaging than what was shown.
