Brothers In Arms: Road to Hill 30

Another World War II shooter? I'll take it. Damn those who are jaded.

Many gamers will sigh in sheer boredom when proposed with yet another World War II themed FPS action title. But not I. I am not afraid. I like the more realistic pace of the older war scenarios. I like the idea of having to pick your shots, cover when reloading, and use your grenades sparingly.

And those who shrug Brothers In Arms: Road to Hill 30 off as just another WWII shooter, have missed out on something a little new. While maintaining the standard WWII characteristics--lovely storyline as far as war goes) and outstanding graphics--BIA has the 'Situational Awareness' mode. Essentially, this is a pause feature, enabling you to evaluate the entire battlefield situation before committing to a tactic. Add in the squad control functionality, and you have a nice new twist on what has been a mundane genre aside from increased graphic quality.

While I am just beginning to tap into this new bad boy, I can safely say: so far, so good. Some immediate observations: loading speed is great; dialogue is a little corny; and the new squad/Situation modes seem to work okay--although these will take time to fully learn and utilize effectively. The graphics seem solid so far and the AI is challenging. I can see this game wasting hours of my life as it already has.
