ESPN hits the ice rough and tough this year.

Like its real-life counterpart, ESPN's hockey game is getting much rougher.

A new fighting system will allow you to bait opponents into brawls, then grapple jerseys as you whale away. A new checking system means more crushing contact on open ice and along the boards, along with underhanded defensive "moves" like slashing and elbowing.

The Franchise mode is getting deeper with improvements to the minor-league system and the monitoring of player fatigue, while souped-up graphics focus on sharper-looking player models, cut-scenes, and arenas.
