Astro Boy looks to become platform gaming?s number-one icon.
One of modern Japan?s most iconic characters will finally get an opportunity to strut his atomic-powered self in the PlayStation 2?exclusive Astro Boy. For those uninitiated, Astro Boy (Tetsuwan Atom) was created as a serial Manga in 1952 by Dr. Osamu Tezuka ?the proclaimed ?God of Manga??and was later adapted into several anime series with a total of 295 episodes produced to date. All of Astro Boy?s incarnations revolve around a robot boy who dishes out justice using his super-human strength and abilities to uphold the very fabric of human society. The infamous Sonic Team, most recently responsible for games like Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg and Sonic Heroes, is developing Astro Boy as a third-person action/adventure game. Fans of Astro Boy will be pleased to see that Tezuka?s world has been kept intact?Astro Boy will be able to employ his classic Finger Laser Beams and Arm Cannons, and (for the sake of gaming) will have the ability to string together combo attacks. He?ll also be able to locate enemies via Mega Hearing and Super Sight, and fly instantaneously anywhere as much as he likes. With upgradeable skills, 10 nonlinear levels, and a faithful adaptation, Astro Boy is looking to overtake Mario and Sonic as the number-one icon in platform gaming this summer.
