Red Dead Revolver

The on-again, off-again, on-again title is actually quite a bit of fun.

We recently had a chance to get some hands-on time with Red Dead Revolver, the western title that was aborted by Capcom and rescued by Rockstar, in order to glean some more of the games story and feel. As you progress through the plot, youll assume the role of up to six characters, each of which has his or her own story to explore.

As the titular gunslinger, Red, you tread the road of vengeance to find the slayers of your family; as the Mexican general, Diego, you contend against U.S. Calvary forces. Each playable character also features a signature move -- Red, for example, can slow down time and target specific body parts, while Diego can trigger cannonball salvos by shooting a flare into the sky.

The playable build of Red Dead offered a cool mix of gunplay, fisticuffs, and dueling, and looked way better than it ever did when Capcom was in charge. Despite the games traditional western trappings, Rockstars trademark black humor was evident in the dialogue as was a copious amount of bloodshed during the games blazing gunfights. Besides more robust sound design, better textures, and higher resolution, the Xbox version will also feature an extra multiplayer level.
