Sony?s UK division, Team SOHO, gave a sneak peek at their followup to The Getaway called The Getaway: Black Monday. Fans of the first game are in store for more of the same great graphics, gritty storyline, detailed renderings of London, and free-roaming gameplay. This time around, you play the roles of three different characters, whose stories interweave to tell one collective whole over a time period of 48 hours. Your actions in each role has a profound effect on the overall story. As usual, there?s no onscreen clutter with health bars, directional arrows, ammo, etc. making gameplay as intuitive an experience as possible.
Team SOHO promises 17 new faithfully rendered London locations taking a ride on London?s infamous subway system, The Underground. In addition to better rendered vehicles, there will also be a load of new vehicles as well as a full lineup of 2-wheelers from scooters to souped up powerbikes to take a ride on.
One of the coolest new levels shown was a police raid on a safehouse where you?re part of a squad of cops chasing the bad guys across the rooftops of London. Mistime your leap, and your clinging to the edge by your fingertips. Miss a leap altogether and watch the perps plummit to the streets below.
Slated for a holiday 2004 release, its clear that there?s a lot more work to go, but its also clear that Team Soho is making efforts to not just repeat what they did before.
Oh, and I know you?ll be wondering: ?Black Monday? refers to the date that the bank heist central to the storyline, takes place.
