An equal-opportunity bloodbath, now coming to the Xbox and PC.
It?s been called everything from ?reprehensible? to ?the Clockwork Orange of video games,? and Xbox owners can now decide for themselves as the PS2 title arrives on Microsoft?s console. For the uninitiated, Manhunt puts you in the uneasy shoes of James Earl Cash -- a death row convict who?s given a second chance at life. The only catch: Cash is wanted by every street-gang member, corrupt policeman, and psycho in the game?s 20-plus levels. Plus, Cash must take cues from an offscreen ?director? who wants to film the carnage.
It?s the snuff that sick dreams are made of: the more gruesome the kill, the bigger the payoff. Although you can acquire firearms later in the game, most of the time you?re limited to crude handheld weapons: glass shards, plastic bags, baseball bats, and piano wire.
Anyone who played Manhunt on the PS2 can attest to the game?s brutality, but there was an equally steep challenge, too, and fans of the action/stealth genre were truly put to the test.
In terms of content, the Xbox version of Manhunt is identical to the PS2, but the aesthetic differences of the preview version were startling. The Xbox game?s awash in razor-sharp surfaces and more detail, and the Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track plays a critical role. The controls were the sole stumbling block as the Xbox controller took some time and patience to adapt to.
Manhunt will also be released for the PC in concert with the Xbox
