MLB SlugFest: Loaded is stepping up to take its annual swing at major league baseball.
If it hasn?t been a great year for baseball purists (or the MLB), Midway Sports certainly doesn?t intend to take it any easier on them. This series takes its swings at big-league ball with over-the-top, arcade-style gameplay, and Loaded doesn?t hold anything back with turbo-speed baserunning, wacky-looking pitches, exploding scoreboards, and, of course, players on fire. The preview version was admittedly bare bones, but the hitting and the pitching controls were straightforward and simple to use. But it?s the show that gives this game its go. Fielders can make some amazing leaps to dive for hot grounders or to jump up to attack elevated line drives. ?Special? pitches make the baseball move like it?s alive, and the batter animations endow players who are emotionless in real life with lively personalities and some cool moves. The game also gives new meaning to the concept of the ?hard? tag, literally punching players out.
Slugfest is actually ?loaded? this year with a heftier franchise mode and online gameplay. Midway is unleashing its Baseball Mogul game engine on Franchise mode for the first-time implementation of full roster control, fantasy drafts, free-agent bidding, and player trades. Online you can expect to find all the usual bells and whistles including head-to-head play and tournaments. However, Midway also has headset support up its sleeve and down-loadable rosters, too. MLB Slugfest is on its way to the plate, and this time it?s Loaded.
