Dead or Alive Online Changes Name

New screens and a name change for the latest installment in the DOA series.

The game formerly known as Dead or Alive Online has changed its name to Dead or Alive Ultimate. While the name change does not bring with it any new features, Tecmo wanted to have separate names for the game and the online community of players surrounding it.

?We feel that Dead or Alive Online has evolved into something bigger than what it started out as and with these additions and advancements came a need for us to change the name to represent this progression. Dead or Alive Online only signifies a portion of this game while the new name, Dead or Alive Ultimate, describes more accurately what fans will experience when they buy this game,? said Tony Tarpey, Tecmo?s marketing manager.

Dead of Alive Ultimate features redesigned versions of the original game as well as Dead or Alive 2, using the engine from Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball. Both games will be fully playable online via Xbox Live.

?Starting with Dead or Alive Ultimate all future titles will have the online feature,? said Tomonobu Itagaki, creator of the Dead or Alive series. ?This community formed by the Dead or Alive fans on the network will be called Dead or Alive Online.?

In addition to a new graphics engine and online play, the game will feature a new opening movie, more costumes, battle stages and interactive environments. Tecmo is planning a deluxe package for the game, which will feature a 2 disc set, collectible trading cards and an as-yet-unannounced bonus feature.

?For those fans eagerly anticipating the next game in the DOA series, Dead or Alive Ultimate is that game,? Tarpey said. ?With loads of additional content, technologically advanced online capabilities, and special collectors? packaging, Dead or Alive Ultimate is a whole new DOA experience.
