This Lord of the Rings RTS is designed to remind WarCraft fans who the true Orc Daddy is.
The other Lord of the Rings video-game franchise (the one licensed from the books as opposed to EA?s film-licensed games) continues this fall with Lord of the Rings: War of the Ring. This real-time strategy game from the developers of Battle Realms hopes to show WarCraft fans who really invented the Orc.War offers a light-side campaign following the Fellowship on their quest to destroy the One Ring and a dark-side quest that chronicling Sauron?s nefarious armies massing in Mordor. The light and dark sides, the game?s two playable ?races,? do battle in familiar Middle Earth settings, including the fortified Helm?s Deep; the Rohan capitol, Edoras; and the sinister pass of Cirith Ungol.
Our favorite characters are hero units in the war effort, serving up everything from healing spells to devastating summoned avatars like Balrog. There are several multiplayer modes and a level editor included, but the preview version of War of the Ring looked, felt, and played like a trimmed-down WarCraft III clone that offers fewer locations, races, and units. The game still has a ways to go, but War of the Ring has the potential to be the one RTS to rule them all.
