The Tom Clancy universe leaks further into the console world, but this isn?t a Raven Shield port.
Rainbow Six 3 for the Xbox isn?t just a port of Raven Shield for the PC?it?s an all-new game with a sort of ?faster action, less crazy tactics? kind of philosophy. Still, don?t go thinking you can just run into a situation with blind guns blazing. That kind of stupidity will still get you killed right quick.In the Xbox preview build, holding down the A button brought up an easy-to-use directional-pad menu that issues contextual commands for the other three members of the squad?clear a room, hurl a flash grenade, or simply cover all the exits in a room?though in the final product, you?ll be able to use the Xbox Live headset microphone to issue commands verbally. A few more options letting you tell your guys where exactly in a room to focus their attention (as in the upcoming Full Spectrum Warrior) would have been nice, especially in one Alcatraz shower-stall shootout taken straight out of The Rock.
The Xbox visuals are already superb, borrowing a lot from Splinter Cell tech with cool night and thermal vision effects and awesome flash grenade afterimages. Whether the game will look quite as spiffy on the PS2 or GameCube is still confidential.
