NBA Live 2004 powers up its defense and adds yet another revolutionary feature. What could it be?
Last year?s groundbreaking Freestyle Control jazzed up NBA Live?s offense, but it also completely overpowered the defensive game. NBA Live 2004 is correcting that oversight in a big way, starting with new A.I. logic. Players react realistically to situations, set plays for you, and are much smarter about rebounding choices. Even so, the offense isn?t taking a back seat, benefiting from tweaked Freestyle Controls and a new one-button system that simulates on-the-fly point-guard-style offensive and defensive set-play calling.Based on the preview versions, the overall speed of the game has been toned down to create a more natural flow. The players arrange themselves on the floor in convincing formations, thanks to the impressive 10-man Freestyle Capture system. Instead of motion-capturing just one or two players at a time, developer EA Canada simultaneously recorded the movements of two complete teams on the court. The game certainly has a smoother feel because of it, and it?s easier to run authentic plays.
The graphics are also receiving a face lift?player models are being completely redone, animations reworked, and all arenas are now accurately modeled. Although the screens shown here are from the PS2 and Xbox versions, NBA Live 2004 will also be available on the GameCube when all three are released simultaneously at the start of the season.
