Was the decision to go Xbox-exclusive the smartest one for Atari? Well, it hasn't hurt so far?.
The Xbox's sudden run of new RPGs continues unabated. Atari has decided to make D&D Heroes?originally a multiplatform title?an Xbox exclusive in order to more fully use the console's powers. A commendable move, and so far, it appears to have paid off?the preview version was night-and-day prettier than previous screenshots, and the highly improved character animation now ranks within the top echelons of its genre. An action romp similar to Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, D&D Heroes pits you (and up to three friends?but with no Xbox Live support) against the second incarnation of a diabolical warlord with seven levels of treasure to loot and goblins to decapitate along the way. For D&D dorks, the main sell here will be authenticity mixed with accessibility?the class system and enormous item list follow the D&D world rules as you know them, but if you don't care about that, then you're free to play Heroes as the hack-n-slash it is. Four-player co-op is also key to maximum enjoyment?the game adjusts its difficulty automatically based on how many human heroes are tromping around.
