The original digital Arabian knight returns to action.
The original Prince of Persia became an instant classic when it debuted over 10 years ago, and the brand new 2003 model is looking like it might attain a similar level of greatness. The demo shown at the recent 2003 E3 show featured well rendered backgrounds and interactive objects like flowing drapes. The prince himself animates fluidly and navigates all manner of obstacles with stylish flair. The fighting system is handled smoothly with attacks based on proximity to your opponents. At various points, dramatic zooms and alternate angles punctuate noteworthy feats and developments, giving the game a highly cinematic feel.
It?s no accident that some special effects look a little familiar since the Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia teams traded some cool tricks such as the aforementioned effect for the drapes. Each game has its own style, though, so there?s no worries about things looking too similar. Prince of Persia is scheduled for release on PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube.
