Tired of Halo? Bored with Unreal Championship? Fear not Xbox owners, for soon you will have a Castle Wolfenstein adventure to call your own.

As the May release of Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Tides of War draws near, you can almost hear the disembodied drooling of thousands of FPS aficionados, lurking like zombies in the mist, waiting to rip the shrink wrap to shreds...

The preview version of RTCW: Tides of War shows every indication of a great game in the making. No mere port of the esteemed PC title, Tides of War has several advantages over its predecessor. Tides new storyline is a prequel of sorts to the story in the PC game, explaining how Army Ranger B.J. Blazkowicz came to be imprisoned in the brooding Castle Wolfenstein while infiltrating Herr Himmlers occult laboratory. Technological improvements include support of voice communication over Xbox Live and a split-screen cooperative mode. Six new multiplayer levels will give PC gamers a reason to be envious. Oh, and the designers finally realized what Evil Dead fans knew all along: shotguns are the best way to kill zombies. So theyve added a shotgun to the arsenal, along with new magic items to help you de-animate the undead.

New X-creatures are under tight wraps till the game launches, but rest assured that when they emerge from the dark corners of the publishers embargoes, they will reward players with hellacious fun. The crop of monsters that have been revealed, show off the demos dazzling graphics and brilliant realism. The controller, ever a point of contention among FPS aficionados, feels graceful and precise. Nerve took a lesson from Halo and plays to the consoles strengths while minimizing its weaknesses. With the Xboxs stunning graphics, tight controls, and gameplay improvements, youll want to Return to Castle Wolfenstein all over again.
