Tecmo?s got some gambling, animal raising, and racing action for you. Unfortunately, it?s not Xtreme Casino Animal Husbandry, but Gallop Racer 2003: A New Breed.
Horse racing games may be a popular genre in Japan, but U.S. gamers haven?t quite warmed up to the various titles that have actually seen an American release. Gallop Racer 2003: A New Breed will try to entice folks to start showing up at the virtual track with a host of features.Following the formula that has worked well in previous Gallop Racer installments, the major crux of the game will involve raising, training, and racing your horse. You?ll be able to select from six different jockeys to embark on a season mode or brush up on basic skills with training mode. A complaint last year was the limited use of betting on races, so now it?s been fully incorporated into regular play.
The current version still has some Japanese text (as you can see from the screenshots), and the final voice of the track announcer is still not implemented. Tecmo has recruited one of the top three U.S. track announcers to lend a much more authentic sound to the proceedings, so that will certainly be something to keep an ear out for. Controls are relatively simple, with the focus placed on pacing your horse so he/she doesn?t wear out too early in the race.
Gallop Racer 2003: A New Breed will be bursting out of the gate later this month so look for an in-depth review soon.
