Skies of Arcadia Legends

Yes, yes, we know, the GameCube is becoming a repository for Dreamcast RPGs, but this one is worth paying attention to. Trust us.

For gamers uneducated in the ways of Sega, the GameCube Skies of Arcadia will look...well, like the two-year-old game that it is. It'd be a terrible shame to dismiss it out of hand, though, because the original Skies was indisputably the best offline RPG that the Dreamcast ever had. You want mind-blowing graphics? Go play Star Fox or something else.

The U.S. previewable, while still exhibiting the occasional graphic bug, hinted at all the new bits Overworks is including in the ?Cube port. Battles were noticeably quicker and there were markedly less random encounters, making for a far better paced game. If you liked the original's ship battles, prepare to be drowned in them: You'll get to hunt down rogue air pirates for big bucks, running into all sorts of new characters along the way (including a weird Vyse lookalike that steals your moves). Factoring in the new side quests and Discovery secrets, you're looking at quite a few hours of extra content on top of the original 40-hour game. It's almost too much.
