The original PS2 version proved you don't have to be a dork to enjoy playing a D&D inspired game. What's it going to be like on the Xbox?
There are probably better places in the world to live in than the port town of Baldur's Gate. In the original PC RPG the city was besieged by bandits and a crippling iron shortage; in Dark Alliance, Interplay's console retooling of the title, it's caught up in a crime wave thanks to infighting among the local thieves guild. It's up to you, a lanky swordsman short on money and patience, to figure out what's happening to your newfound home turf. The Xbox version of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance won't be much different from the original PS2 game. As before, you'll navigate across a set of nicely detailed overhead-view game maps, bopping orcs and discovering treasure using a game system that's more than a little reminiscent of console-style action RPGs. The only real innovation is progressive-scan support, allowing rich Xbox owners with high-spec TVs to experience graphics just as clear and sharp as what they get on their PC monitor. It's due to hit stores this fall.
