Evolution Worlds

Can two wrongs make a right? We'll find out this fall when Ubi Soft releases two powered-up Dreamcast RPGs on one GameCube disc.

Evolution was one of the few games that actually got more attention than it probably deserved. (The same goes with its sequel, Evolution 2: Far Off Promise.) While Sting's series of traditional RPGs does have its cadre of ardent followers, most of the people that bought it did so simply because it was the only RPG on the Dreamcast for the majority of its lifetime. Now Ubi Soft is extending a helpful hand to the GameCube (a system critically low on role-playing joy) with Evolution Worlds, a remake of the two Dreamcast Evolution titles.

One of the chief complaints with the originals was that they were both beatable in a weekend's time. Evolution Worlds will neatly take care of this by combining both RPGs into a single progressing story, instantly turning it into some kind of RPG epic with over 100 characters and 40 hours of game play. The story and characters are exactly the same, but Sting is enhancing the graphics for the GameCube and adding spoken voice to more characters than the original, making it worth a play even if you've stormed through the Dreamcast games. The game's due out in America this November; take a look at our Dreamcast reviews to see what we thought of the originals.
