The Xboxs answer to Wipeout, Quantum Redshift will reveal to gamers a world of speed those NASCAR posers could only hope to achieve.

Hyper-enhanced hover vehicles zooming around desolate wastelands at 900 miles per hour. Race drivers firing everything from plasma bolts to nuclear weapons at each other. No, its not another Mad Max movieit's Quantum Redshift, Microsoft's shot at a Wipeout-style futuristic driving game.

The in-game racing league will include 16 drivers (seven of playable from the start), each with his own personality, home track and customized vehicle. Although the ultimate object of the game is to win at every track and become champion, each character will also have a "nemesis" that must be whipped into submission to advance the story.

As you win races, you will gradually unlock new tracks, weapons and most importantly speeds. The racers in Quantum Redshift can run at five speed levels, the highest of which will send you zooming down each track's straightaway (and probably into a few walls until you get it under control). The game will be out by the holiday season; although there's no word on online play, there will be a split-screen multiplayer mode to humiliate your friends with.
