Just when you thought it would languish in Europe forever, Wipeout Fusion gets a U.S. release date. Hang onitll be faster than ever before.

Wipeout Fusion has been out for a while now in Europe and Australia, much to the chagrin of futuristic, tripped out, Euro trance-beat racing game fans. Fortunately for them, BAM! Entertainment has signed a deal with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe to bring the fourth game in the series across the Atlantic and into American consoles.

This is the first Wipeout game on a next-gen console, and Studio Liverpool (formerly Psygnosis) has tried its best to use the extra power. 21 gigantic tracks will be available, all with new gimmicks and hazards like vertical air jumps and reverse-gravity pads. There are nearly 30 weapons to blast away competition with, including some exclusive to certain racing teams or only available in multiplayer modes. Of course, the feeling of speed that Wipeout is so famous for will still be there; theres even a Zone mode where you must go around a track faster and faster until you hit nearly twice your normal maximum speed.

Instead of the racing classes of previous games, the game will gradually make itself more difficult as your characters abilities grow. Your CPU-controlled rivals will respond to your driving and even hold grudges against youram the wrong driver off the road and hell try to get his revenge in the next race. If you think you can cut it, check out Wipeout Fusion when it hits stores this summer.
