The survival horror starts anew with a face-lift of the original installment that started it all.
Capcom turned more than a few heads when they announced that the Resident Evil series would be exclusive to the GameCube, and that the first GC title would be a remake of the first game. This will be the only older title to get a complete makeover, as part 2, 3 and Code Veronica will be straight ports with relatively minor graphical improvements. Resident Evil 0 (originally a N64 title) should be quite a nice lead-in to what?s in store in RE4.We recently picked up the finished Japanese version of the Resident Evil remake, and it?s nothing short of incredible. These graphics that have to be seen to be believed. The screens below and movies you?ve seen on the on the internet can only give you a light taste of the full course to come. Anyone who has played the original on the PlayStation will recognize many familiar places, but little twists and new areas spice things up and keep you on the edge of your seat trying to anticipate what?s going to happen next. The basic story is the same, but the dialogue has been rewritten and the voice acting is slightly less cheesy than before, although it still has plenty of B movie feel to it.
New items, puzzles and enemies really go beyond a mere graphical tweak?plus the game is much harder than before. Cool new extras can be unlocked as well like a whole slew of new outfits for Chris, Jill and Rebecca. It?s a shame that this is the only one getting revamped (just imagine how part two would have looked), though it?s probably better that Capcom?s concentrating on getting out two new installments to the series as quickly as possible.
Recently, Sony announced some sort of Online Resident Evil game, but Capcom has maintained that the titles in the current continuity of the GameCube series are still going to be exclusive to that system. Whatever happens, GameCube owners can finally sink into another blockbuster title this April.
