The city just isnt a safe place to be anymoreespecially with giant monsters tramping all over it. Infogrames tries its hand at making a Godzilla fighter.

Up from the depths! Twenty stories tall! Monster of monsters! Defender of Earth (sometimes)! The titanic star of 25 monster flicks and counting is about to be crammed into a 2.5-inch GameCube disc by Infogrames. Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee is a four-player Smash Brothers-style fighter with the massive titans from Tohos movie library punching, kicking, and breathing radioactive death upon each other in more than ten cities across the world.

The 14 creatures in Destroy All Monsters Melee run the gamut from Godzilla himself (1990 and 2000 versionsif you want the CGI abomination from the Hollywood movie, then tough) to arch-nemeses Mothra, King Ghidora and Mecha-Godzilla. Theyll be trading blows everywhere from Tokyo and San Francisco to the mysterious Monster Island. One cute strategic twist: each city has an army with tanks and laser cannons that attacks whichever monster is damaging more of the city during battle. As a result, throwing your opponent through power lines and into hospitals and banks will be more than just great stomping funyoull need to do it to get the military off your back.

Godzilla, a GameCube-exclusive title for now, is due to come out worldwide this fall. Until then, take a look at the screenshots below to get a little taste of the game.
