  • Anyone who's followed any of my coverage on Red Faction: Guerrilla (see above) knows that I'm more than a little obsessed with the game. After reviewing it though, and playing many of the Guerrilla Actions and destroying any targets I had left behind, I still thirsted for more. Luckily THQ announced that they were planning to release three DLC packs for the game, one of which I had the opportunity to play, and play I did.

    SPOILER ALERT

Demons of the Badlands takes place three years before the events of RF:G, and puts players in control of Samanya, who you may remember as the salvage-addicted junky hanging out in the tool shed making you weapons all the time. The story revolves around Samanya's involvement with and eventual parting from the strange group of desert exiles known as the Marauders. The story also deals with who the Marauders are, and more importantly who they were before they were, well, Marauders. Mariner Valley is the locale where this DLC takes place, which is removed from the game world of RF:G. It's roughly the size of the Oasis, but Volition really packed the area full of Guerrilla Actions, three story missions, and a ton of EDF targets to destroy. Mariner Valley also houses the Marauder hometown, known as Deliverance, which features a much more vertical take on architecture, with many of the structures and buildings stretching high up into the Martian atmosphere. This new "look" to the structures in the game can be seen elsewhere in Mariner Valley as well, giving this DLC a fresh new perspective on the Martian landscape than what was featured in the main game.
