GP: There are few games like P.N. 03 and Oneechanbara that star women in high-action roles, though the action genre has featured male protagonists for the most part. Was Bayonetta always conceived as a woman, and if so what influenced that choice?
Platinum Games: Yes it was in the original plan, the protagonist was always intended to be a female character. Despite that there were members of the team during the early stages who worried that games with female lead characters don't sell very well. "Are you really sure that's a good idea," they would ask. "It's very difficult for me as a player to get into a game with a female lead, it's hard for me to identify with a female character." Despite that, it had more to do with the actual characterization, because within Bayonetta you have the gunplay, you have the sword and you have the physical attacks. Just simply doing those actions are interesting to a point, but to make the game great you have to add great characterization, for example Dante's cool attacks or Viewtiful Joe's unique style. So again [Hashimoto-san] is looking for a unique tone, a unique way of moving through the world.
It's not enough that she just attacks enemies with a sword or her guns, but that she does it in a very sexy and stylish way. During design we paid careful attention to the difference between how males and females move and how they act and interact. We wanted to create a female character and give her a very feminine way of interacting, but we also saw the value in having her occasionally act as a male would. To give you an example, on this promotional poster she stands in the sort of pose that a man would take. Having a female character who generally has a female role and moves in a feminine way, having her suddenly presented in masculine poses creates more depth and more characterization.
GP: Which actress or model do you think could best play a live-action Bayonetta?
Platinum Games: Oh I don't know, Catherine Zeta-Jones maybe? (Laughs.)

... soooooooooooooooo true, the only thing you can look forward to w/ this game is over the top hack slashery & tacky dialogue infused w/ the Japanese's bizarre obsession w/ subliminal sexual inuendos. This is Devil May cry in reverse w/ a chick (witch) as the protagonist. The white haired guy in DMC kills demons & this tacky witch kills Angels, not very avant garde (guarde). The only thing eagerly anticipating this game is the bargain bin @ ur local video game retailer. Nuff said.
Heavenly Sword was a not sooo heavenly clone of God of War & Bullshitnetta follows in the same path. This statement applies to both the 360 & PS3 versions.
