Wii Sports Resort: Party Life Preview

A great light-hearted game for any type of gamer, Wii Sports Resort is the perfect party game.

Nintendo's new take on their wildly successful Wii Sports series, Wii Sports Resort, brings new activities to the console, while revisiting a few favorites like bowling and golf. A total of 24 events spread out across 12 different categories will be available to unlock as you make your way through the game, ensuring that gamers will always have something to do while playing Wii Sports Resort. Activities such as archery, basketball, table tennis, and power cruising control smoothly with help from the new WiiMotion Plus that will be included with each copy of the game. Events that we are familiar with and love, like bowling and golf, have been fine-tuned and upgraded for better accuracy and more sensitive controls.

During my visit to Nintendo, I was able to get my hands on Frisbee dog, sword play, power cruising, archery, basketball, bowling, table tennis, canoeing, cycling and even some dog fighting which is found under the "air sports" activity. I was surprised at how easy the controls were to master and just how natural it felt to be canoeing in the ocean using a Wii-mote and Nunchuck. For more accuracy in games like bowling and Frisbee dog, players can choose whether they want to let go of the Frisbee or bowling ball by using the B button in the manual setting, or just let the computer decide by the flick of their wrists in automatic setting. There are also different difficulty settings for the events, allowing gamers to decide if they just want to play a casual game with friends or take things up a notch by playing things a little harder.

I was a fan of Wii Sports before, and I think this sequel adds a whole new dimension to the game by adding even more activities to the mix, and the number of available games is pretty impressive, too. The controls are fluid and more responsive than ever before thanks to the WiiMotion Plus. For $49.99, Wii Sports Resort is a great party game for the casual or hardcore gamer. Even if you weren't a big fan of Wii Sports, you'll probably find hours of fun in Resort.
