Yoostar: a movie fanatic's dream come true

Yoostar is a new entertainment console that allows "you" to star in a ton of movie and TV show scenes.

Yoostar may not be a household name, but the upcoming "immersive entertainment system" is looking to turn some heads when it releases this August. The system is a do-it-yourself virtual movie studio, allowing everyday Joes to replace classic movie and TV characters with themselves, and re-imagine the scene as they see fit.

Yoostar: a movie fanatic's dream come true

The technology utilizes a hi-res webcam with attached microphones and a portable green screen (big enough to cover a large portion of a living room wall), and the initial system will include 14 scenes, with 36 roles to choose from. Once you've picked a scene, Yoostar will prompt users to enter a chalk outline-looking frame where the character you'll play will be replaced with you. Before shooting a scene, Yoostar also displays all the lines, and you can listen along to practice until you've got the part down. Shooting a scene is a fairly simple process: hit record, make sure you're within the confines of the character outline, and take it away.

My demo consisted of a scene from The Blues Brothers, where Jake and Elwood Blues (John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd, respectively) are in their car and Ackroyd says the famous line "It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses." Though it was a small scene, it did take me a few tries to get it right (I was a little embarassed since I told the Yoostar reps it was one of my favorite movies). Once we shot the scene, we reviewed it instantly on a laptop connected to the video peripheral. Once here, you can adjust lighting levels to match up the original movie lighting with the green screen shot. Though we didn't do this during the demo, once you're happy with the clip, you can upload the video to yoostar.com, which will act as a Youtube-esque video site where users can create profiles, upload videos and rate other user clips.

After reading the article about the gameloft CEO saying games will be ubiquitous I thought about how companies will be making more consoles to try and compete with the big three but not for a while. I didn't expect someone to announce that in august a company will be taking console entertainment to a whole new level!

What will they think of next?? Is virtual reality on its way for next year jeez.

I don't know about this.. It looks like a gimmic to me. I am not planning on getting it until I see some promising videos and reviews as well as a list of some of the movies. If it is really good it would be pretty cool.

I just checked their website.
www.yoostar.com

It does look amazing and it is priced at $170.00 US

I still don't know if I will get this but I may.

Not that I'm interested AT ALL, but coudln't they release this for PS3 and XBox360? Don't they both have cameras? It would seem more of a game for the Wii audience, but it has no camera and the CPU probably couldn't handle it.

This is available already for the xbox360 "You're In the Movies".
I got it from walmart.com for $20 TOTALLY worth it. It came with the camera and does the same thing except for put you into famous movie scenes. It is a blast with your friends. Good luck selling this for $170. $50 and I'm on board.

The concept kinda reminds me of when Booker T superimposed himself in front of the Rock in the Scorpion King... that's when Booker and GoldDust were a team. I don't know if anyone here will remeber that, but it's one of the funniest WWE moments (probably WWF at the time, it's been like 10 years!).

It's kinda like Guitar Hero, but for movies instead of music... They would sell 100 times more if they called it MOVIE HERO!
