One of the most storied adventure gaming franchises returns!
I have a soft spot in my heart for the people at Telltale Games. Having met with them multiple times over the years for various game demos, the impression I always got was that game development wasn't so much their business as it was their passion which, as a gamer, is awesome; it's always nice to meet people on the creation side of the equation who are genuinely excited about the games they create. The company is also responsible for bringing one of my favorite gaming franchises back: their treatment of the Sam and Max license (not to mention their Wallace and Gromit games) cemented their standing as one of my favorite developers around.
And now, they're resurrecting another one of my favorite gaming series with Tales of Monkey Island. I got a chance to see the game in action at E3 and if it lives up to my high expectations, Telltale just might edge out Valve to claim the number one spot on my personal favorites list.
The Pox of LeChuck
As reviews editor, I have to maintain a sense of cautious optimism with every game; no matter how amazing it looks, I have to reserve judgment until I have the final build in my hands to ensure the game gets a fair shake. But this is Monkey Island we're talking about! It's hard for me not to get excited at the prospect of playing as Guybrush again. And since Telltale has a proven track record with their Sam and Max and Wallace and Gromit game, it's difficult to remain truly skeptical.
There's also the fact that Dave Grossman, one of the original Monkey Island creators, is one of the backbones of the Telltale dev team which means the game is in good hands. But enough gushing: onto the game. Tales of Monkey Island takes place after the events of the last Monkey Island title, Escape from Monkey Island. Intrepid hero Guybrush Threepwood is set to defeat the evil pirate LeChuck but through a series of mishaps, he winds up turning the undead villain into a human and gets his right hand infected with the "Pox of LeChuck" in the process. If you've played the Monkey Island games, you know this sort of mishap is par for the course for poor old Guybrush.- Previous Page Prev

I've only ever played the first Monkey Island on Sega CD, was never a big pc gamer so I missed out on the later installments, but I'll probably download the Wii version. It looks pretty sweet.
