  • Why Terminator Salvation might be great

  • May 22nd will see the release of Terminator Salvation starring Christian Bale. But several days before the film hits theaters, lucky PS3, Xbox 360, and PC owners will get to experience the videogame. Terminator Salvation (the game) sets up many of the events of the film, depicting John Connor's early days in the human Resistance as the relentless supercomputer Skynet begins to purge humanity from the nuke-scorched Earth. Lucky for us humans, we've got a secret weapon: GDC 2009 and a new chance to brush up on our terminator-hunting skills. Below are our quick-hit impressions of our playtime, presented in condensed form. TGIF!

  • The opening scene sees a distress call from a group of four survivors trapped behind enemy lines in nuke-ravaged Los Angeles. The Resistance leaders don?t want to help, but John Connor throws caution to the wind and leaves an evacuation helicopter in order to save the survivors. Blair Williams (Moon Bloodgood in the upcoming film) follows Connor into Skynet-controlled L.A.
  • Very fluid cover mechanic. Taking cover is much like Gears of War, in that tapping the A button (X on PS3) slams you up against a barrier or wall. But you can also easily slide to another piece of cover by holding the appropriate direction and pressing A again.
  • A.I. partners are a big part of the experience, and your squad that expands from one or two to eight or nine depending on the level and mission.
  • Utilizing the environment (and your partners) is crucial; cover is degradeable, so enemies can tear through it in a matter of seconds. Skynet?s forces are relentless and pursue you from all angles. They are particularly fond of launching an attack from the front and ambushing you from behind while you?re distracted. But this strategy swings both ways: oftentimes, distracting an enemy and quietly circling around to the rear is the most effective way to land a killing blow on Skynet?s metal monsters, particularly the four-legged T-7Ts.

These pictures better be from the pc version, because they suck. Hopefully it's just the camera, or something, because if i'm not sure about a game, i usually decide to rent it or not based on graphics. I want something good to look at while i'm playing, so if these are the graphics and the box says "Hot chick not included" I'm not getting this.

This game looks cool enough, we already have better story to follow than most silly game stories... but the Health thing still bothers me. I hate games that you die endlessly for no other reason than a stupid dev decision. My fingers are crossed for this one.

Wow...not only do we have to suffer the moron posting first, but he can't even use correct English. Then there's the guy who thinks that either console could ever hold a candle to PC graphics.

I'm really hoping that this game is quite enjoyable. I've always enjoyed the Terminator series and to play in an 3D rendered world of it does sounds pretty tempting. Of course that all depends on how well the game was programmed and constructed. I'm not dishing out 60 bucks for a mediocre game. I miss the 39.99 games.... What a simple world it was. :P
