The cutest, bloodiest PSN game you've ever seen, Fat Princess is as deceptively strategic as it is hilarious.

Rangers fire arrows from a distance. Earning the upgrade grants you a massive, shotgun-like blunderbuss.

Like a crazed combination of LEGO Star Wars and Team Fortress 2, Fat Princess takes 16 on 16 online player battles to an epic (and adorable) new level. Team play, whether online or offline, is the only focus in Fat Princess. The game is so named for its chubby mascot, who serves as the "flag" for each team. Stuff your princess with cake and you'll do more than expand her waistline; you'll make it that much harder for the enemy team to steal her away for points.

Beyond that basic premise, little has been known about Fat Princess until now. In seeing a new version of Fat Princess running, it's clear that the game has seen a lot of polish since its video-only debut at GDC 2008. The game supports up to 32 players online, computer-controlled bots, and features four play modes that range from team deathmatch to checkpoint control. Like Team Fortress 2, the gameplay depth in Fat Princess comes from the dynamics between its five specialized character classes and the strategies players use to snatch the enemy princess. Warriors are the best fighters, but are vulnerable to the projectiles of the Mages and Rangers. Priests help keep the whole group alive, and Workers must harvest resources for the good of the group. Now imagine dozens of those players scurrying about in each match and you?ll have a good idea of what Fat Princess is all about.

Snipping out the first-person precision required from competitive shooters like Halo and Team Fortress 2 while retaining their strategic depth is no easy task, but Fat Princess is showing promise in all the right places. The control scheme is simple, the graphics are gorgeous (and gore-drenched), and the game is cute, cute, cute. This is a key PSN game to watch for this summer.

Mages hurl fireballs that burn briefly before exploding. Upgrade this class and you'll fling ice shards that slow the enemy.

Priests heal nearby teammates. The Dark Priest class upgrade enables you to drain life from enemies in a more offensive role.

Looks like a cute game. I have a weakness for cute, funny games like this. Very theraputic.

Looks good actually. It looks FUN, I miss that in video games. As for you Kratos, what a dumb comment, aren't all games on Live and PSN $10 bucks?

ManginaX

Why is this dumb game even getting any press? It doesn't look fun, it looks like it was designed by preschoolers... Isn't there enough of these dopey games on the market? I still don't know why it's getting press.

ManginaX

I was right.I'm in the beta and I still can't figure out for the life of me why this is getting any press at all.... And hilarious? No, it's not. Mildly amusing if your under 7 maybe.

If you like capture the flag, go for it. I'll stick with, well, anything else. LIVE has it's share of dumb games like this too, so I guess it's only right that Sony gets their version.

MizzouMafia

Mangina X, you aren't in the beta.

On another note I am approaching this with a bit of caution as I was severly burned by what I thought was going to be another crazy addictingly(is that a word?) fun game in Calling All Cars.

On the other hand, my initial impressions of Pixel Junk Eden included absolute boredom, complete stupidity, and absolute failure. Yet, here I am months removed from PJ Eden's release and I am a full fledged Eden Junky. Absolutely LOVE IT.

So I'm going to say Fat Princess looks boring, is completely stupid, and will ultimately fail. So...I'll see you online DAY ONE.
