Space Invaders Extreme

A new XBLA shooter is soon to come that may very well put Geometry Wars to shame. Space Invaders Extreme (SIE) is the name and it is just that: extreme.

SIE consists of updated characters, explosions, and firepower that hold true to the original's pixilated style. Even the loading screen is pleasantly adorned with 3D interpretations of colorful, coin-like invaders flying about. The background has been completely revamped to now include a unique visualizer that correlates to key gameplay elements such as enemy density.

Blast From The Past
The mostly electronic soundtrack is upbeat and flows nicely as you fend off invaders. Each color enemy drops a specific power-up after hitting a certain number of them in a row. This new feature, among many, adds a whole new dimension to the once basic arcade classic. Rounds, better defined as mini-games, initiate at any point during your shoot-fest by following on-screen instructions that pop up. There are 16 rounds in all so having to do the same two rounds over and over again is not an issue.
