God of War III: Weapons and Items Preview

The devastating new Cestus gauntlets aren't the only new weapon in God of War III. Take a look at some of the other items you'll be using to dismember enemies in the game!

Blades of Chaos: Kratos's signature chain swords return, and the developers at Sony say they'll focus more than ever on these distinctive weapons. We spotted many familiar combo attacks, but also a great number of new ones that capitalize on their ability to extend and retract over great distances.
Cestus: The first confirmed new weapon in God of War III, the Cestus are a pair of huge gauntlets. The Cestus enables Kratos to bully his way up close to enemies, and also grants him a nimbler dodge move that allows him to literally counterpunch incoming attackers. The Cestus also appears to be spring-loaded with chains, and the fists can extend over impressive distances to clock enemies. A variety of powerful ground-pounds and uppercuts round out a powerful and visually impressive close-range weapon.
Fire Bow: Kratos appears to come equipped with a Fire Bow, a spiritual successor for God of War II's Typhon's Bane. Unlike the Bane, the Fire Bow doesn't fire big blue lasers but realistic flaming arrows that can set enemies ablaze. Once on fire, enemies can spread the fire to other nearby creatures. The Fire Bow seems to fire very rapidly, and can be used to get the attention of roosting Harpies if you need to cross a wide chasm.
Head of Helios: You earn this magic item after killing Helios by, you guessed it, tugging his head off. The Head of Helios seems to fill a familiar role formerly occupied by the Head of Medusa: it emits light that will blind enemies and also illuminate dark areas. Holding it up will also make secret passages glow.

I can't even begin to think of the serious sick combos I'm gonna unleash upon!! Despite old weapons with new names, The Cestus and Fire Bow seem pretty cool.

I can't wait to wreck havok in GOW3. Just think of all the cool ass achievement points I'll get. Then in multiplayer I'll get to....oh, I just remembered I don't have a PS3. Oh well.
