Greeks go wild in God of War III for the PlayStation 3, and GamePro has first impressions.
God of War III Previews Table of Contents
Teeth bared, veins bulging, Kratos plunges both hands elbow-deep into the gargantuan eye socket of the Cyclops. Propping a foot against each hulking shoulder of the giant, the bloodthirsty Spartan and raging son of Zeus yanks the beach ball-sized organ as if it was a cork coming out of the world's largest wine bottle. Blood vomits from the orifice as the glistening optic nerve stretches and stretches and stretches like an overtaxed rubber band. It snaps, the two halves of the ruined eyestalk flutter to the ground, and the giant orb comes free in Kratos's hands.
The kicker: this is an in-game, playable sequence from God of War III, Sony's outrageous new action epic for the PlayStation 3. Though it's months away from completion, God of War III is already something special.
"Death is in My Blood"
God of War III looks fabulous in still images, but to really make sense of its stunning imagery you have to see it in motion, preferably in HD. To see God of War III running in its full glory is breathtaking - it is indeed "like a painting come to life," as former game director David Jaffe described in a frothing, expletive-filled blog post several months ago. Hearing such magnificent praise for a game that is months from release, it's tempting to roll your eyes and cry "hype!" But before you do that, consider this: after 10+ years of covering video games, I'd have to label my viewing of God of War III as a clear visual high point. In fact, God of War III looks so good that the only closest reference I can draw is Crysis, a PC shooter that is a radically different game in both look and feel but shares similarly striking production values. As far as I can tell, there has never been anything, anywhere that looks quite like God of War III for the PlayStation 3.
The scale is simply remarkable. Note that Titan smashing in the background -- this will be a common sight as you scale Mt. Olympus.
Fans of the series will be particularly pleased with the flurry of new visual details applied to Kratos, the rampaging son of Zeus who leads the Titan's assault on Mount Olympus. His 3D character model is shockingly well-rendered on the PlayStation 3: his Golden Fleece armor now sparkles with high-resolution reflections, the scars that crisscross his body glow with malevolence, and he scowls and grimaces during trying battle scenes. The visual fidelity is so off-the-charts that you can make out folds of flesh on the knuckles of his realistic-looking fingers, catch an occasional gleam in his ferocious eyes, and see a soft glow off his smoothly shaven skull.

Oh.
My.
God.
I can't wait to see how the Titan assault on Mount Olympus turns out. GoW 2 had such an awesome ending.

Its not coming in 2009. All GOW games release in the March-February so its gonna be next year. But this looks just epic.

Now this was the game I was thinking about on line on launch day, no other, and if the PS3 could pull off a few more of these rather then trying to compete in the shooter market, the PS3 would be the third MUST HAVE console.
The GOW series was clearly the best looking games on the PS2, so there was no doubt in my mind that part 3 would be look as shit.
Now, while this game looks freaken nuts, I am seeing much of the same imagery and enemies that I saw in the first two games, which is fine, but I really hope that they cover much needed new ground, not just the same game with graphical enhancements...
It's gonna be really tough waiting a year for this one, ... but then again I said the same thing last year about RE5 and that's only weeks away.

To bad the trailers for the GOW games are better then the actual game. Unless you're type that likes to mash on the same 3 buttons through the entire game. /Lose
