Resident Evil 5: gameplay and co-op impressions

Chris and Sheva coordinate their attacks to break down this door. Teamwork is a big focus in RE5, and Sheva and Chris must help each other reach areas that they couldn't reach alone.

Time for a Change

A frequent criticism of the Resident Evil series centers on its awkward, old-fashioned control layouts. In Resident Evil 5's default control layout, those awkward controls make a return and force players to kick, shoot, knife hordes of enemies solely with the left analog stick. The characters still move stiffly with this scheme, however, which may prompt some players to switch to the new "shooter" controls. This control scheme should better suit those who are used to action games such as Gears of War and Call of Duty, as this system utilizes both the old Resident Evil controls and FPS-style strafing movements.

Resident Evil 5 is due out in March of 2009 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
