The Conduit

It's as close to a Wii version of GoldenEye as you're gonna get.

The Conduit

Confession time: I generally don't like playing FPS games on consoles, especially if it's on the Wii. As a long time computer gaming vet, I prefer my FPS action to come with a heaping side of mouse/keyboard controls; yes, I played the hell out of the Halo franchise and games like Resistance and Metroid Prime were pretty cool too, but if I have a choice, I'm going mouse and keyboard all the way.

Now, the Wii Remote's motion sensing capabilities were supposed to revolutionize FPS gaming on the Wii, what with its free-aiming ability, but if I'm honest, all it did was aggravate my carpal tunnel-it allow for more precise aiming, sure, but waving your arm around to aim gets tiresome real fast. I also hate the fact that you have to wave the remote to the extremes of the screen to get your view to move up, down, left and right; I always end up overshooting my target. So it takes one hell of a Wii FPS game to make me forget about the control issues and actually enjoy myself-the last Wii shooter to do that was Metroid Prime 3-which is why I have high hopes for The Conduit. I took the game for a spin at the Nintendo Fall Media Summit and even though it has control issues, I can't wait to play the game again.

Rage Against The Machine

I don't know the full story behind The Conduit-as reviews editor, I try to stay away from reading previews so I can go in fresh when it's review time-but I know it involves aliens and apparently, the Illuminati. The stage I played was set underground, beneath the Lincoln Memorial and I battled my way through tunnels, subterranean offices and computer labs until I finally got outside. The action in Conduit is pretty relentless and you're constantly assaulted by shock troopers (they were reanimated corpses of soldiers) and aliens that sort of resembled the Vortigons from Half-Life.

I picked up a variety of weaponry, from the standard human weapons like pistols, shotguns and a SCAR (SOF Combat Assault Rifle), which became my de-facto weapon of choice. There was also an alien battle rifle and grenades thrown into the mix. The gameplay was standard FPS goodness, involving running around, shooting everything that moves and tossing off the occasional grenade to roust enemies who were behind cover. There's also a cool twist in the form of the All-Seeing Eye, a neat-o gadget that you can pull out to activate switches and detect hidden traps; I didn't see any other uses for it beyond that but hopefully, the devs have something more in the works.

^ No one gives a shit if you're first.

I'm psyched for this game. I've been saying it since I first heard about it, it looks great and I can't wait.

The Wii's FPS controls are great. I'm not the biggest FPS fan but I can enjoy them in moderation. I'm looking forward to this. . . it's probably no Metroid though.

You can customize your controls down to the very last detail. That's your problem Tae K. Kim, you didn't customize your controls.

I love Wii's FPS controls... especially in Metroid 3 and MoH Heroes 2. I can't wait to get my hands on this game. Looks very promising!

I dont usually have any problem with Wii first person shooters, even the ones with supposedly bad controls like Red Steel and Medal of Honor Vanguard. And my arms rarely get tired, the way you sit and rest your arms is a major factor. This game looks promising.. still too early to tell yet if it's gonna be a AAA title but if Nintendo is backing the game more than likely it's going to turn out to be quality.
