There hasn't been a good Time Crisis-style shooter since... well, Time Crisis. Endgame is an attempt to change that.
Namco's Time Crisis series includes some of the best gun shooting games the world has ever seen. Anyone trying to develop a similar title has a very steep uphill battle ahead of them, because there's only so much you can do that Namco hasn't already included in their series. Fortunately for gamers, Empire Interactive is willing to give the genre a shot with Endgame, a traditional light-gun game set in two distinct worlds. You play the part of Jade, an American woman living in England with her boyfriend Tyler. This friend of yours works for EuroDream, the company behind a virtual-reality world currently used by nearly everyone in Europe. One day, though, Jade receives a frantic call from Tyler. Apparently EuroDream troopers are out to get him for reasons unknown, and only Jade can save him. Good thing our heroine happens to have a few guns lying around, eh?
Anyone who's played a Time Crisis game will immediately feel at home with Endgame. Each of the 22 levels consists of several locations and cover points, and you must alternate between shooting enemies and ducking behind pillars and other objects to avoid return fire. While most of the time you'll be using a semi-automatic six-shooter to defend yourself, you'll be given a machine pistol to fire away with in levels that take place in virtual reality. If you make it to the end of a level before time runs out, you'll get a chance to take down that area's big, bad boss.
Empire is creating a multi-faceted world to set the stage for Jade's adventure. The game will take place over five European countries and efforts have been made to give Endgame a distinctive, film-like graphical style. This look will be backed up with fully motion-captured animation and a Dolby surround-sound musical track that will hopefully make you happy you spent the family fortune on that entertainment system in your living room. You'll be able to give Endgame a whirl this spring.
