Naruto: Path of the Ninja 2

With a fresh filler story and more characters, Path of the Ninja 2 looks to appease hardcore Naruto fans.

Frequent releases of Naruto games are as reliable to anime fans as yearly editions of Madden and NBA Live are to sports fanatics. With Path of the Ninja 2, the upcoming Naruto RPG sequel for the DS, developer Tomy looks to give fans of the original more DS ninja action with more of everything. From using the titular character's Shadow Clone Jutsu to recruiting popular sidekicks like Gaara of the Desert, Path of the Ninja 2 is piling on more content for fans of the series.

Some story elements from Sasuke's defection factor into the game's plot.

Tons of Touch-Based Ninjutsu

Unlike most RPGs on the Nintendo DS that simply ignore touch-functionality, Path of the Ninja 2 requires you to constantly scribble on the touch screen. It's a welcome change of pace: certain special moves will have you drawing like crazy, especially as your ninja unit grows stronger. As you face off against enemy ninjas and various woodland critters, you'll be able to deal more damage or use defensive tactics based on your field position. Many of the battles aren't difficult in the least, but at the very least, touch screen-based moves break up the monotony somewhat.

This Jutsu Looks Familiar

To its credit, Naruto: Path of the Ninja was a fairly decent RPG that had everything a series fanatic could want -- a lengthy story taken straight from the show, semi-complex combat, and special moves charged with strokes of the DS stylus. However, everything I've seen from Path of the Ninja 2 looks exactly like the first one. That's no hyperbole. Everything from the artwork to the combat system is exactly the same, which fans of the first game will feel comfortable with. If you haven't played the first Path of the Ninja, Path of the Ninja 2 drops in September.

These PoN games are so half assed it's not even funny. The graphics could have been done on the GBA, especially those exploration maps. It's an okay game, but only Naruto die hards will thoroughly enjoy it.
