Call of Duty: World at War eviscerates!

The often ignored Pacific Theater will be one of the many playable campaigns, and will feature its own surprises, such as tree snipers.

Other new features = controllable planes and more

Activision also revealed a few new features that we did not see in action during our demonstration. We learned that you'll be able to pilot vehicles, including a small airplane. We also learned that a Russian campaign exists, where you take control of Russian infantry defending Stalingrad and wind up gaining revenge against Nazi Germany by invading Berlin.

Activision emphasized that notions of revenge and the brutality associated with revenge are key emotional themes in this chapter of the Call of Duty series and even after seeing a fast-paced and extremely intense thirty minutes of gameplay, we understood what they mean. Combat here is chaotic and moves as quickly as it did in Call of Duty 4. You have to bob and move and duck and cover if you want to survive against the advanced A.I.

Vehicular combat will be returning, given you the choice to pilot a fighter plane or this little beauty right here.

At the end of our demonstration, one astute German journalist asked the Activision representatives if they were worried about upsetting the existing humongous base of gamers who are still playing Call of Duty 4 (which recently was named the most popular multiplayer game on Xbox Live). Activision responded by saying that they really hope that people who loved COD4 give this new game a chance and that the new weapons, new setting, new multiplayer perks and new co-op play should hopefully draw lots of multiplayer interest.

As a side note, in about two weeks, you'll be able to read much, much more about the new Call of Duty in GamePro's upcoming cover feature story in our October magazine. Activision revealed absolutely everything - way more than we saw here in Leipzig - about the game to senior editor Sid Shuman.

EnderSoldier

I think it'll probably be the best first-person shooter this year (only Resistance 2 and Hell's Highway have a chance). It actually looks terrific.

I'm tellin ya man, most people by christmas time are gonna have a list as long as my arm of games they just can't afford, which leads me to believe some gaming hacker will eventually figure how to run a game off the HD without the disk, and usually I would be dead set against something like that, but the amount of money in profit in games alone is almost criminal.[p][p] This dam COD5 is another game I am getting for sure, It seems like every time I turn around now I'm saying that, which is great for me but not so great for my wallet.

WildChild126

This game is looking better than I thought it would. It's slowly creeping up on my to buy list.
