Samba de Amigo is back and better than ever! The colorful music/rhythm game finds a new life on the Wii and is set to get you off the couch and shaking your money maker. We got our mitts on Samba's virtual maracas and learned first hand what makes this offbeat game tick.

Shake it, don't break it!

Samba De Amigo is one of those games that you may be hesitant to play at first, but once you get over the initial feeling of embarrassment it's a lot of fun. The colorful graphics, upbeat soundtrack and unique controls create an experience quite unlike any other rhythm game you may have played. The feature most people remember from the original title was the special maraca controllers made especially for the Dreamcast version of the game. In this new version, Sega has made use of the Wii's motion controls to recreate the experience. You can use either a two Wii Remote or Wii Remote/Nunchuk configuration to play the game and both work equally well. Some people may be concerned about the tether messing with their maraca skills, but in our hands-on play time we tried both configurations and found them to be fairly comparable.

Rhythm of the night.

Samba de Amigo's set list includes many songs from the original game plus a slew of new tunes that will bring the total count to over forty songs shipped on the disc. Old favorites such as "Macarena","Cup of Life","Hot Hot Hot","Samba de Janeiro","La Bamba","Theme from Rocky","Low Rider", and "Conga" will be making a return visit, and the addition of downloadable content will keep the beats going. The first downloadable content has been announced and will contain three songs: "I Want Candy", "Are You Going To Be My Girl?", and "Mambo Mambo." No price point has been set for the content pack as of yet, but one can assume that it will be comparable to Rock Band and Guitar Hero downloadable packs.

Friend Fiesta

Since no one should shake alone, Sega has brought back some of the most popular two player modes from the original game. Players can choose between cooperative or versus play as well as various other modes, such as Career, Single Player, Multiplayer, Training, Records, Quick Play, Classic, Battle, Survival, Hustle and Mini-Games. Special new Sega levels have also been added that will feature past Sega characters (Ulala anyone?). For all you Mii fans out there, your Mii's will be incorporated into the game as background partiers as well as appearing in the bottom of the screen, showing you how you're doing by their facial expressions.

The new set list and the addition of downloadable content will make it one of the "must have" games for the Wii, for both fans of the original and new Wii owners who are looking for a great experience. Look for the fiesta to samba its way to your Wii on September 23rd.

I thought this game looked very stupid, but Sonic? I just might have to try it.

It is stupid, but it's also pretty fun. I have the old Dreamcast version with the maracas...feels silly while playing, but it's addictive.

Should have died with the Dreamcast. And part of the appeal of the original game was the maraca controllers.
