Killzone 2 multiplayer revealed, like Call of Duty 4 meets Gears of War
Want to see more E3 games? GamePro's on the scene in Los Angeles!
Clans, squads and tons of customizable options were announced for Killzone 2.
LOS ANGELES -- To a crowded room of gaming press, two members of Guerilla Games unveiled a ton of new multiplayer details, as well as a handful of in-game video clips of Killzone 2's online mutliplayer modes. Rather than bombard you will pages of text, here are the highlights of Killzone 2's online multiplayer:
- Anyone can enjoy it; play as you like; inspire team play; supports a community beyond the game itself
- It's easy to join, but has plenty of advanced features for hardcore gamers.
- Two ways to play: Quick Join (pops you right into a game with players of the same skill set), or Regular Join (customize maps, missions, game size, and friends)
- Player progression has Call of Duty 4-like features: 12 military ranks, each one unlocks new abilities and features; 46 ribbons and medals; 100+ player statistics
- 6 Badges act as character classes, including Saboteur, Medic and Engineer: Each badge has two character-specific abilities (for example, Medic has Revive and the ability to toss out med kits)
- 2 badges can be combined to form a new badge (class): Medic and Engineer can combine to form a Medic Engineer with Revive and Repair abilities.
- Players can tweak almost every single game setting to create custom games.
- Games support up to 32 players on 8 maps.
- Players can cycle between different spawn points on a map after dying. A cool feature lets you view real-time video of each point before spawning.
- Squads: 4-player groups that players can form on the fly in a round
- Clans: Longer-lived teams, complete with a betting system and custom tournaments. Killzone.com will feature loads of clan stats for viewing and recruiting players.
- There are 4 leaderboards for online statistics.
- Public beta coming this year!
As for footage of the actual game, we saw a few clips of the game in action, and it's looking really impressive. I didn't really like the first Killzone, but these clips had me itching to get in and play. I'd call it Call of Duty 4 meets Gears of War. Hopefully we'll get our hands on it soon...or they'll be hell to pay. Hell, I tells ya!

well the first killzone sucked, so I'm not buying into the hype just cuz this one is pretty. I'll let the gameplay speak for itself next year.

shaping up nicely........but i had very few doubts to begin with. as for Killzone 1 being "pure garbage".......i understand thats your opinion, but apparently you haven't played a good many FPSs out there that are FAR worse than Killzone 1. the South Park FPS on the Nintendo 64 for example, Quake 4 on the Xbox 360 (game itself is not bad, it runs HORRIBLY though......im talking like fewer than 15 frames per second at times), Resident Evil Dead Aim is another SUPER STINKER. Killzone 1 was an above average shooter in my opinion......it had technical issues no doubt (the concept of the game couldn't me captured on PS2 hardware) but the story was well-conceived, it played well enough, and the visual style was really cool.
