Resistance 2's 300-foot tall beast storms Sony's E3 press conference.
The 300-ft tall Leviathan was revealed today at Sony's E3 2008 press conference.
LOS ANGELES -- If you've seen the August issue of GamePro magazine, you know that Resistance 2 is the real deal. In fact, it's doing more than any other shooter this year in terms of size and scale. 8-player cooperative play and 60-player online multiplayer is enough to get any shooter-loving gamer drooling.
But what about the single-player campaign? The Chimera are spreading through the United States at rapid speed, and there are plenty of new creatures to battle in the sequel to last year's PS3 launch shooter from the makers of Ratchet & Clank. But nothing is quite like the gigantic beast that was officially shown today. We initially unveiled the Leviathan, a 300-foot tall Chimera monster, in the August 2008 GamePro magazine, but this was the first time it was shown via in-game footage to the public.

Insomniac's Ted Price led the audience through a live demo of the game, where Nathan Hale was confronted by the Leviathan in the game's Chicago level. Hale quickly discovers that machine-gun bullets hardly even hurt the creature, but rockets do annoy him. Before he can run, though, it picks up Hale and tosses him about, landing him in a nearby rooftop. Hale runs, but is grabbed by the beast again, and launching a rocket in its mouth causes the Leviathan to release him. It's not over, though. Not by a long shot.
Halo runs from rooftop to rooftop, trying to ditch the beast. But it grabs Hale again and flings him through the windows of a walkway bridge, and he lands on another building nearby. Shaken up, Hale takes a look at the giant creature, and that's where the demo ended.
But we know what happens next, courtesy of our special look at the game in our August issue. Hale gets a transmission from his squad to lure the Leviathan under a nearby bridge, where a demolitions team can blow a charge that might take the creature down. So Hale fires rockets at it to get its attention, and sure enough, it charges toward Hale for the kill. Once under the bridge, the team detonates the charge, bringing the Leviathan down for good.
But is it the last of these giant Chimera in Resistance 2? We severely doubt it.

resistance was a decent enough game, I hope that insomniac really ratchets(pun intended) up the gameplay and intensity of this game. They need to in order to stand out against the amazing shooters that have been released recently.

As much as I like Gears and Resistance and games like that...I mean all you're doing is shooting at monsters...It's like no matter how cool the monster looks or is all you're really going to do is shoot at it....I mean I like that it's a simple thing to do and some things can get pretty intense...But if you show me a monster I have to kill in Ninja Gaiden or God of War it gets me alot more excited. I mean so many different ways to kill it with different combos and shit...That's alot cooler I think...And it shows skill....Just about anyone can shoot at something. But don't get me wrong I'm hella pumped for Gears 2 and Resistance 2 but I just wanted to throw my own spin on it I guess.

I thought it was stupid of them to give away how to defeat the monster, the clip they showed at the E3 press conference was basically a huge spoiler! They show the hero walking around with a huge rocket launcher, waiting to get picked up, then shoots the damn thing in it's mouth. When's he's thrown down, the hero then switches to his 50's style machine gun...uhh....obviously that's not gonna do anything, and then waits to get picked up to shoot the leviathan in the mouth again. It would be cool to actually take this dthing down, bit by bit, but it looks like you'll only get to attack at certain cut scenes...
