Acclaim?s new arcade racer will test your nerves of steel?among other metallic body parts.
You already drive like a maniac. It?s time you were rewarded for it. That?s the setup behind Burnout, Acclaim?s new arcade racer with a harrowing twist. The closer you come to collisions, the higher your turbo meter climbs. Split lanes, cut off some 300 other drivers, or slide up next to them at blazing speeds for near misses, all while battling the clock. And if you fill your turbo, then you can move at blinding speeds and crush the best time?or crush your front end. Sixteen crash cameras will give you gorgeous replays of those glass-shattering moments that you zigged when you should have zagged. The designers are going for a movie-like chase-scene vibe?they cite Ronin as an influence?and in the early version, that was more or less achieved already, and the wrecks were unnervingly realistic. Visuals were sharp and control was tight, with acceleration either on a button or the right analog stick. Best of all, the as-yet-unfinished game featured a real pick-up-and-play vibe that?s sure to attract wannabe daredevils.
