Adapt to the frantic pace of a restaurant chef as you sling out everything from greasy burgers to five-star Italian delights in this full-fledged, Wii-exclusive cooking game.
Aimed specifically at Wii Remote-savvy gamers, Order Up! simulates various cooking skills though a wide assortment of mini-games. You'll shake the remote to grate cheese, make quick cutting motions to dice up your ingredients, and (like a conductor) wave your controller to assign tasks to your future kitchen staff and restaurant crew. You just have to gain enough skills before you can actually hire them.
The first day of your new career: you pose for the camera as if to say, "Look ma, no booger!"
Kicking It Up a Notch
As your culinary skills grow, Order Up! constantly throws a new challenge in at every turn. You'll eventually move from tiny joints like Burger Face to fancy digs like the Chez Haute - but only if you can build a good reputation with the island crowd. Please your customers with quick service and you'll get extra tips and good reviews. You can then use the extra dough to buy ingredients, spruce up your menu with unlockable recipes, get a new set of kitchen tools, or start shopping around for assistant chefs.
Smartly managing your restaurant will play a part in your success, too. Not only do you have to keep your customers happy, but your restaurant will also receive visits from food critics and the local health inspector. Is your meatloaf surprise not up to snuff? Start looking around for a new main-attraction meal to round out the menu. Throwing out too much food? Be careful about trashing your ruined meals, or the rats will start staking out your kitchen.
While the start of your career is far from glamorous, you learn skills to better prepare you for the road ahead, such as flapjack flipping.
Bam!
There's a mixed salad of unique characters in Order Up! that is distinguished even further by excellent voice actors - including some talent that formerly worked in the Grand Theft Auto series. In each new part of the island you'll gradually uncover lots of new characters and gameplay elements, constantly tasking you to keep those cooking skills sharp.
It may not teach you how to actually whip up a lobster bisque, but Order Up! looks like it has just the right mix of ingredients to make a juicy meal of a game. We'll be waiting for our next serving when it hits shelves this summer.
