Open World
For the ultimate tool in destruction, try out this mining mech.
Red Faction: Guerrilla is an open-world game set 50 years after the events of the first game where the player fights against the oppressive Earth Defense Force. We put this open-world feature to the test and found it to be absolutely true.
Now equipped with the grenade launcher, we began blasting massive holes in buildings with very little effort. The non-playable mining pedestrians ran with hands over their heads from our destructive impulse. The EDF, however, didn't take kindly to our actions and rolled up by the half dozen in armored rovers. Obviously the EDF runs the mining outpost, and we were blasting away the production line.
The anti-personnel assault rifle ripped through the well-armored EDF enemy forces, and we took little damage using the cover system that allows you to blind fire or pop 'n shoot like Gears of War. The familiar satchel charges from the previous games, however, provide a more humorous alternative to dispatch enemies. Stick a satchel charge anywhere on an enemy and watch as they spastically squirm about trying to shake off the explosive charge. Satchel charges are sticky bombs with a remote detonator. You can place as many as you like, then flip the switch and they blow up one after another in the order you placed them.
All vehicles revealed.
As mentioned above, there are vehicles in RF: Guerrilla, all of which can be driven. We witnessed armored EDF rovers, mine-material transports, and even an armored mining mech. The vehicles were too slow for an enjoyable ride a la Grand Theft Auto, but dealt massive damage when smashed into buildings.
Based on our brief play session, RF: Guerrilla is shaping up to be a great addition to the Red Faction series. And we get the feeling we've only scraped the surface of the game's many surprises. We speculate more weapons, vehicles, and multiplayer modes will be revealed in the coming months around E3. Until then, check out the very similar Fracture if, like us, you have an urge for smashing and blowing things up.
Vehicles are slow, yet powerful.

I loved the first one for the PS2 it was so silly and fun, unfortunitly they killed the series and my interest in it after the first but i think this one will resurrect it close or hopefully better than the first, cant wait to go mining on mars!

God damnit! I said give me a f***ing sequel to Red Faction not Gears of f***ing War Theft Auto with destructible environments. They screwed the pooch on this one. Fuck this game, and fuck Volition then.[p] Maybe they should just stick to shitty GTA ripoffs instead. *looks at this game* oh they are.

The mining mech and plane look awesome, I loved the first one, too. But about the physics and that building falling, maybe it's for the best. For example, you're in a heavy fire fight and accidentally knock out that fourth wall, only to be insta-killed by the building collapsing. I don't know, I'll hold judgement on that until I see it in action.

I love Red Faction for the PS2. Before I owned the game I had the demo, which I would spend 3 - 5 hours blowing up holes into the walls, recreating the Underground Railroad. It never seemed to end. Good times
