Columns Crown

Sega?s old Tetris-killer gets advanced with more modes, enhanced two-player play, fun collectible stuff?and an anime schoolgirl/alchemist/witch.

Sega advances their classic puzzle game with the addition a story (well, sorta), cute lil? anime characters, an expanded 2-player mode, and a whole slew of collectible Magic Gems with opponent-annoying powers that bring lots of incentive to play through the game?s three different single player modes: Survival Mode, the ?classic? Columns in which you keep dropping gems ?til your eyes bleed; Versus Mode, which pits your character against a number of forest-dwelling jewel thieves; and Flash Mode, where you try and clear out a target gem from the bottom of a giant pile.

It was good to see the game?s notoriously high difficulty level was still intact?and it was good to see them take a note from games like Puzzle Fighter with the inclusion of the 26 different kinds of magic powers to use against your foes?but it was even better to see that they made the jewels nice ?n big, further postponing all GBA owners? inevitable need for costly Lasik eye surgery.
