Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars

Doom. Ms. Pac-Man. Gradius. And now?graphic adventures! Broken Sword is the latest old-school game to receive a GBA kick in the pants. But how will the ol? point-and-click interface translate to the handheld?

From 2D platformers and sprite-based shooters to Ms. Pac-Man and Mode 7 Mascot Racers, lots of genres once thought long dead are finding new life?and new fans?on the Game Boy Advance. The latest revival? A hand-animated, PC and PlayStation graphic adventure called Broken Sword, an Indiana Jones-y tale of an ordinary American guy who has a liaison with some superspies and 14th-century supernatural forces in Paris.

A UK-based development team called Revolution has been working to shrink down the game?s colorful art and backgrounds, and make sure the ol? point-and-click interface gets properly overhauled for the mouse-less Game Boy Advance. If things go well for Sword?and the ol? graphic adventure receives another renaissance?don?t be surprised if some companies like LucasArts start digging through their PC archives to bring classics like Monkey Island and Day of the Tentacle back into the light. Here?s hoping Sam & Max get to hit the road again.
