Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix

A gorgeous Street Fighter recreation...

This week we got yet another taste of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix at Capcom's latest press event. If you haven't been keeping up, HD Remix is a full-HD (1080p) downloadable remake of the game available only on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade this summer.

The game has been recreated with all-new HD character art, and all 17 original characters are playable in the game. Remix HD was shown last year, but this time the Xbox 360 arcade pad was usable, meaning some old-school Street Fighter experts came out of the woodwork to destroy the likes of, well, me. Only Ken and Ryu were playable this time, but it was still a blast to see the game remade in such a beautiful form.

Remix HD offers single-player off and online play, as well as two-player online and single-console battles. The new stuff is quite impressive, too, allowing for improvements like in-game voice chat, flexible matchmaking, stat tracking, a spectator buy-in system called "Quarter Match Mode," and worldwide rankings.

Street Fighter purists also get the option to play in 4:3 mode, play classic background music, and there's even the choice to run the original 2D sprites. Xbox 360 gamers might want to pick up the arcade pad for this one because the wonky Xbox 360 directional pad is just not going to cut it. This is one instance where the PS3's Sixaxis controller (or upcoming DualShock 3) has the definitive advantage.
